poems, songs, book, + submission recs of the week: 1/22/24
monday made better with poetry, music, + more :)
happy monday, my tender poets!
i’m here with some poems and music to start your week. first, some recs:
Roxane Gay’s 2023 year of reading list was so interesting and comprehensive (and features some of my friends/mentors!). i have added so many new books to my TBR from these recommendations.
Caitlin Conlon’s favorite reads of 2023 dropped, and quite frankly, she is one of few people whose book recommendations i 100% trust. Also, if you’re a writer looking for someone to edit your work, please run, don’t walk, to hire her to edit your collection this year.
If you’re a writer and are in the middle of submission woes, here’s a great list of places accepting subs rn (you’ll have to scroll a bit to find the ones still open past Jan. 15, but they’re there; i promise).
This profoundly moving and human essay by Andrea Gibson is exactly what i needed to read going into the new year.
also, if you don’t follow me on instagram, i recently shared a new playlist titled: i have so many reasons to be sad but i am really trying not to be. it’s for those in recovery for anything — depression, lost loves and breakups, grief, and more, and more, and more. 2024 is the year we let ourselves be sad — and we remember that it will pass. if you missed it, here’s a link to last month’s playlist.
more poetry, prompts, and music below. i hope your weeks are full of good line breaks and even better lyrics,
